The ‘Ideal’ Bedroom…

The ultimate goal is a restful & restorative sleep, right?

Absolutely!!! So, let’s run with the whole ‘masculine’ & ‘feminine’ thing for a minute (see previous blog post: “Yin & Yang”); the ‘feminine’, or ‘yin’, being a symbol of earth, passivity and darkness:

So we want a ‘feminine’ bedroom… seems likely. (Not ‘harsh’ pinks or purples that we may associate with being ‘feminine’.)

Let’s look at the ‘Earth’ element:

Earth is known as the transitional element. Earth provides a stabilising factor that allows transformation to take place. Earth is our home and provides nourishment for all being on it. Earth resonates at the same hertz we do (roughly 7-8hz) and this direct connection is vital to health.

Sounds good!

Passivity; a state of inactivity.

Darkness; the opposite of light!!

What would the ‘earth element’ look like in your home? Colours of soil (sandy beige to red or grey clays to the darkest peat brown) and yellow; quartz crystals and stones; materials of terracotta and ceramic; or images of deserts and mountains.

And lastly, colour meanings according to Feng Shui:

The colour green is the colour of renewal, fresh energy and regeneration.

The colour brown is reminiscent of roots and nature, so it often has a comforting and centering effect in a home. It is considered a stable colour and motivates feelings of safety.

I’m thinking: burnt saffron to mustard-y yellows, military to mossy greens and peat-y browns; don’t be afraid to go dark - paint your ceiling, skirting boards and radiator the same colour; go for curtains rather than blinds to create a drape-y cocoon-like effect; go heavy on texture by changing up different fabric surfaces, where possible - they increase comfort and depth; add plants where you can, and as many as you can, and plant them in terracotta pots.

Don’t let the bed bugs bite :-)
