Reclaim Your Zen.
The first thing to remember; everything is energy.
Health and well-being play a huge part in almost everything I do. I extend this to my home - my home is essentially an extension of me. It reflects my personality and provides me with comfort.
Once again I refer to ‘Feng Shui’. It’s nothing new. Most people have heard of it, and it just makes sense.
I had redecorated before I looked in to Feng Shui. It just so happened I had decorated my home with colours that were completely aligned with with what I, and my energy, needed and wanted.
In my living area I took my time, pondering over colours, getting samples, and seeing what I was drawn to. At first I was looking at Terracotta-y pinks - the colour of plaster. I guess I knew I was looking for an earthy tone. I finished on a dark-ish peat grey-brown.
Brown, according to Feng Shui, is: reminiscent of roots and nature, so it often has a comforting and centering effect in a home. It is considered a stable colour and motivates feelings of safety, making it a great choice to add in family spaces as it can enhance honesty and is a catalyst for heart-to-hearts. <3
Depending on what you want to achieve; whether it’s purely aesthetic or creating a space that works for you energetically, I really feel it’s worth taking a look at.
There’s a massive misconception regarding masculine and feminine interiors (see also “Yin & Yang”). So often I see white interiors advertised as feminine and calming, and especially for those who practice Yoga: Is your goal body beautiful, or zen? If it’s the latter, I really recommend you consider ditching the whites and nearly whites - Yes, it’s clean and pure looking, but it’s a powerful ‘Yang’ colour and a great energy ‘reviver’. We don’t want to be revved up all the time!!
Choose a tone that works for you. Paint the walls, ceiling, windowsills, skirting boards, radiators, even fireplace surrounds in the same colour - it’s a real game changer. Darker colours making a room feel smaller is a myth - if you paint the ceiling too, it creates more flow. For energy alike, flow is good.
